Grace is the word the whole Bible leans on, and one of the most searched. When people ask what does the Bible say about grace, they're often really asking: do I have to earn God's love, or is it actually free? Scripture's answer is unambiguous. Grace is unearned, undeserved kindness — God giving us what we could never work for.
Ephesians 2:8-9 is the clearest statement: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." Every clause is aimed at the part of us that wants to contribute. Not of yourselves. The gift of God. Not of works. Salvation, in the Bible's frame, is received with empty hands.
Romans 5:8 shows you the timing of grace: "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Not after we improved — before. That is the scandal and the comfort of grace at once. Titus 2:11 calls it the grace "that bringeth salvation" and "hath appeared to all men."
Grace is not only for the moment of salvation; it is for the daily struggle. 2 Corinthians 12:9 — "My grace is sufficient for thee" — was spoken to a man begging for relief he did not get. Hebrews 4:16 invites you to "come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Boldly — not because you've earned an audience, but because grace means you don't have to. Romans 6:14 promises that sin shall not have dominion, "for ye are not under the law, but under grace," and 2 Corinthians 9:8 that God is able to make "all grace abound toward you."
If you are exhausted from trying to be good enough, these verses are an invitation to stop earning and start receiving. See also salvation, forgiveness, and guilt.
