Terms of Service
Effective 2026-05-16
1. What this site is
Scripture Search is a topical Bible search engine. You type a feeling, situation, or question in plain language, and the site returns scripture passages (in your chosen translation), a written prayer, and an optional reflection. It is operated for personal devotional, study, and pastoral use.
2. Not a substitute for professional care
Scripture Search is not medical, mental-health, legal, or financial advice. If you are in crisis, please use the hotlines surfaced on the crisis page (988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, Crisis Text Line, NDVH, RAINN, Childhelp, SAMHSA, Poison Control). If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 (or your local equivalent). Pastoral and counseling guidance for serious situations should come from a qualified human.
3. Scripture content & translation copyrights
Bible verse text on this site is provided through api.Bible, under the licenses each translation publisher provides. We always display the publisher's copyright line with each verse. You may use the verse text on this site for personal devotional and study use consistent with the publisher's terms. You may not scrape this site to republish verse text in bulk, especially for translations that are not public domain (KJV, ASV, WEB are public domain; most modern translations are not). When in doubt, refer to the source translation's own licensing terms.
4. AI-suggested content
When the curated topic library cannot match your query, the site asks Anthropic's Claude API for suggested verses and a prayer. The site validates that each suggested reference exists in the chosen translation before showing it, and marks the result as "ai · suggested." AI suggestions are not the same as theologically reviewed curated content. Read in context. If a suggestion feels wrong, trust your judgment over the suggestion.
5. Prayers and reflections
Prayers, intros, and reflection questions in the curated library are written for general devotional use. They are not a sacrament, a counseling intervention, or a substitute for a relationship with a pastor, priest, spiritual director, or therapist. Adapt or skip whatever doesn't serve you.
6. Your use of the site
You agree to use Scripture Search only for lawful purposes consistent with these terms. You will not:
- Scrape the site or its underlying APIs in violation of translation licensing.
- Attempt to bypass crisis-resource handling for any user.
- Use the site to harass any person or to weaponize scripture against a person or group.
- Attempt to compromise the security of the site or its infrastructure.
7. Sharing & the share-as-image feature
You may share verse images generated by the site for personal use, including on social platforms. The publisher's copyright line is rendered into every image — please do not edit it out. For public-domain translations there are no further restrictions; for modern translations, the publisher's terms apply to your re-share.
8. Group mode
Lessons you create in Group Mode are stored only in your browser's local storage. Share links encode the entire lesson in the URL and do not transit through our servers in a stored form. Be mindful: anyone with a share link can read the lesson.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The site is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties about uptime, accuracy of AI suggestions, or fitness for any particular purpose. Verse text accuracy comes from api.Bible and the publishers; report errors and we'll relay them upstream.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Scripture Search and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site, including reliance on any verse, prayer, reflection, or AI suggestion. Use the crisis resources for crisis situations; use a pastor or counselor for pastoral situations; use professionals for professional situations.
11. Changes
When these terms change materially, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated and a notice will appear on the home page for a reasonable period. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Where local consumer-protection law gives you stronger rights, those apply notwithstanding anything here.
13. Contact
For questions about these terms, please use the contact channel on the home page.
